As hard as it is to believe our bodies need a healthy amount of "Good" bacteria in the digestive tract. Many yogurts are made using active, good bacteria or you may know them as "Probiotics".

Probiotics which means "For Life" is referring to living organisms that when eaten in adequate amounts could result in a health benefit for your body. Remember though, the only yogurts that contain Probiotics are those that say "Live and Active Cultures" on the labels.

Since yogurt comes from milk, you are getting about 9 grams (per 6oz. serving) of animal protein. Yogurt also has other nutrients like calcium, vitamin B-2, B-12, potassium and magnesium. Because of the health benefits of yogurt people who are trying to eat a healthier life style will have at least one serving of yogurt daily. I have been doing this now for about 6 months. I tease my husband and tell him I am hooked on yogurt with cheerios!!

My Strawberry Yogurt Parfait

1/4 cup chopped Cheerios (40 calories)
6 oz. container of Yoplait Light Yogurt "I used Strawberry Shortcake" (100 calories)
1/4 cup of chopped strawberry (that I added just a touch of raw honey too)
2 teaspoons of Fat Free Cool Whip (optional)

Start with your chopped Cheerios and start layering the ingredients. Top it off with a touch of cool whip (or not) It is also good to add a small amount of chopped walnuts because a small amount is really good for you daily.

This is a fantastic breakfast. I will admit the morning I made this parfait for the lens, for some reason it was a little rich. The funny thing about it was it was the same amount of yogurt I eat everyday, the amount of cheerios the only difference was the small about cool whip and strawberries.

This combination would really be good if mixed together and frozen in those little freezer containers. Yummy!! I hope you try this recipe, if you do please drop a line and let me know how you liked it.
