Tostones, also known as patacones, banan peze, and plantain crisps, add a tropical twist to your home cooking. Grown in warmer, tropical climates plantains are readily available in most supermarkets in the US. Found in the section by the mangoes or coconuts make sure to pick green to slightly yellow plantains to make tostones. Green plantains impart a potato-like flavor, while yellowish ones have a tinge of sweetness (my fave). This dish is wonderful as an appetizer or served as a side to chicken, fish and pork.
