I frequently have problems opening even jars which have already been opened once due to arthritic pain in my wrists. Assorted types of rubber grippers do sometimes work, but I often find I don't have the strength even to turn the lid.
If my hubby is around I hand the jar to him, but sometimes he's not home or he's busy elsewhere, and then I pull out my Zyliss Jar Opener. With this jar opener I can easily and effortlessly open any jar.

I have something similar to this. It really comes in handy since my hands are rittled with arthritis.
