The Order of the Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Carmelites are a Roman Catholic religious order that may have been founded as far back in history as 1209, although the origins of the Carmelite order are not clear. The focus of the Carmelite monks is to spend their time in comtemplation and prayer. According to Catholic Church tradition, the Carmelites are protected by the Blessed Virgin Mary.
